Squarespace reCAPTCHA Integration [Easy 2024 Guide]

Adding Google reCAPTCHA to your Squarespace site can enhance its security, effectively guarding against spam and automated abuse. This tool serves as a gatekeeper, challenging visitors to prove they are human before submitting forms. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of your website.

Despite the continual evolution of web technologies, Google's reCAPTCHA has remained a constant in its functionality and integration into Squarespace's platform. Incorporating this feature into your site is a straightforward process that can protect your digital presence without compromising user experience.

Enhancing Squarespace Site Security with Google's reCAPTCHA

  1. Activating Google's reCAPTCHA on Your Site

To start using Google's verification on your Squarespace website, you need to integrate it into the system's backend.

  • Locate the site's Settings menu, choose Advanced, and proceed to External API Keys.

  • In the Google reCAPTCHA Service area, select the link for Google reCAPTCHA API Keys.

  • This redirects you to the service's main page. From there, go to the Admin console at the top-right.

  • Opt for reCAPTCHA V2 (Checkbox) since V2 is compatible with Squarespace, unlike V3.

  • Add your Squarespace default domain, omitting any ** https** prefix, by clicking the addition symbol.

  • Repeat this for your custom domain(s) without the https prefix.

  • After submitting, note the provided Site Key and Secret Key.

  • Back on Squarespace, input these API Keys in the Google reCAPTCHA Service area under External API Keys and save the changes.

  1. Implementing Google reCAPTCHA in Squarespace Forms

Once the service is enabled on your site, it's time to apply it to form elements.

  • Go to any form block present on your site.

  • Inside the form block editor, find and mark the Add Google Verification checkbox under Captcha.

  • Apply the changes.

  • Perform these steps for every form you wish to secure on your site.
